Photographer & DATU founder
Nick Patterson
I’m Nick Patterson, a photographer and the founder of DATU.
For me, photography brings three things together: the design and feel of a camera, the technical work of making an exposure, and seeing the light or composition that gives an image its feeling. That combination keeps me coming back.
I started DATU because I wanted to work in art and build a business around things people are excited to own. My photographs are the beginning. The next step I’m working toward is collaborating with other artists, helping their work reach people, and handling the selling and logistics so they have more room to create.

Puddles.
My son had just figured out how much fun puddles could be. As he splashed around, I focused on his boots and the water flying up around them.
By the time we left, his clothes were soaked and he rode home in a diaper.

Sunrise in Belize.
I got up before everyone else on a trip to Belize and set up my tripod by the water. I waited for the sun to come up, then worked with shutter speed and exposure to smooth the water under that warm morning light.
